that acting under the advice of them Attorney General I caused an Extension to be issued on behalf of the Crown for the recovery from the branch Bank here of the Amount of the Bills remitted by this Government to the Crown Agents and Post Master General, which would be dishonored on presentation.
2.
The amount of dollars originally paid for these Bills has been recovered with interest at the rate of 12.00 per Annum and fresh Bills drawn on London and County Bank were forwarded by last mail - £15000 to the Crown and £2162.8.10. to the Post-master General. The rate of Exchange in England now ruling is so much lower than that existing when the Original Bills were purchased that, notwithstanding the high rate of interest recovered, this Government will still be a loser by the transaction - however the Money was so urgently needed by the Crown Agents that I was obliged to remit on the most favorable terms.
3.
I also sent a second bill for £2891.5.0. to the Crown Agents for the general credit of the Colony and believe that there are now sufficient funds in England to meet our current disbursements and pay the Quarterly instalments of the Military Contribution for the March and June Quarters.
